Job Description

The Reservoir Engineer Manager will lead and manage a small team of reservoir engineers to optimize production and enhance the reservoir performance for our assets. This role requires a hands-on approach to reservoir engineering, involving both technical leadership and direct contributions to reservoir analysis, modeling, and management. The Reservoir Engineer Manager will ensure reservoir management practices are aligned with the company’s strategic goals, driving improvements in recovery factor, production optimization, and economic viability of existing and new projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a small team of reservoir engineers to ensure efficient execution of projects, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
  • Oversee the day-to-day technical work of the team, ensuring best practices in reservoir modeling, simulation, and production forecasting.
  • Support team members in their professional growth, offering guidance in technical problem-solving and career development.
  • Direct and perform reservoir engineering activities including well performance analysis, decline curve analysis, material balance, and reservoir simulation for unconventional reservoirs.
  • Lead efforts in developing and updating reservoir models for the company’s asset base, ensuring optimization of field development plans.
  • Work closely with geoscientists, production engineers, and operations teams to integrate subsurface data and enhance field development strategies.
  • Provide expertise in managing and developing Austin Chalk or similar unconventional reservoirs, leveraging advanced techniques in reservoir characterization, fracture modeling, and production optimization.
  • Lead the development of reservoir models for horizontal wells, fracture simulation, and enhanced oil recovery (EOR) methods tailored to unconventional plays.
  • Drive initiatives to optimize well performance, identify opportunities for workovers, and enhance recovery methods.
  • Collaborate with production engineers to ensure reservoir performance and production targets are being met.
  • Conduct technical evaluations to support new business opportunities, field development plans, and reservoir assessments.
  • Prepare and present technical reports and recommendations to senior management, providing clear and actionable insights into reservoir performance and potential improvements.
  • Interface with the geology, geophysics, drilling, and completions teams to ensure integrated development plans.
  • Provide technical leadership during project development, guiding decisions related to reservoir conditions, well placement, and production strategies.
  • Promote the use of advanced reservoir engineering technologies (such as integrated reservoir simulation, production forecasting, and enhanced recovery methods) to improve reservoir management processes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, Reservoir Engineering, or related discipline, required.
  • A Master’s degree or professional certifications (such as SPE or PE license) is a plus.
  • 8+ years of experience in reservoir engineering within an E&P environment.
  • At least 3 years in a managerial or leadership capacity, overseeing reservoir engineering projects or teams.
  • Austin Chalk experience (or similar unconventional reservoirs) is strongly preferred.
  • Proven expertise in reservoir simulation, modeling, and production optimization.
  • Familiarity with modern reservoir engineering software (e.g., Eclipse, CMG, Petrel, etc.) and tools for performance analysis, history matching, and reservoir simulation.
  • Proven ability to think strategically about reservoir management and field development. Strong leadership in delivering technical excellence and driving performance improvements.
  • Strong understanding of subsurface and surface production systems, well completion techniques, and enhanced oil recovery methods.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working collaboratively across teams.
  • Experience with production forecasting, reserves estimation, and economic evaluation of field development opportunities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
  • Proficiency in data management and reservoir surveillance systems.
